The participatory programme began this week with an invitation to people from Morning Star charity which supports those rebuilding lives after addiction and homelessness, to work with the artists developing their response to the exhibition and the subject matter. Initially participants spent a morning exploring the exhibition, asking questions and making comments, taking their time and unwrapping the work for themselves.
The first session in the evening, was hosted by Prudence Maltby, whose work on the Other Worlds project with young soldiers was the catalyst for Cicatrix http://otherworldsproject.wordpress.com/. Prudence will be supported by myself, Susan Francis throughout the project, as I have a history of work with the charity. We were both really encouraged to find the participants keen to get started when we met up again in the evening. Prudence had prepared a personal box for each participant containing tools and materials to equip them for what is starting out to be a really interesting journey for us all.
