Imber Village is situated in a remote location on the western side of Salisbury Plain, six miles from the nearest town. In 2003 I went to an Artangel event there – Giya Kancheli - “A musical walk through Wiltshire’s lost village”. This was a profoundly moving and haunting experience. I have ever since been intrigued by Imber and its story. During WW1 the community accommodated the army but in the Second World War, two weeks before Christmas, the army insisted that the villagers moved out with promises that they could return after the war – this never happened. A couple of times a year the army allows public access to the village. These photographs were taken in April 2013 when Imber was open. However many times I go I am still disquieted by the place that so strongly evokes ideas of memory and displacement - Henny Burnett
